Mobilization of the cranial nerves by Anne Hartley, BPHE, CAT(C), D.O.M.P., D.Sc.O. (CA)

Date: February 9 to 11, 2024

In most anatomy texts, the cranial nerves are shown as twelve separate nerves, with little information on the anastomoses between the nerves and the upper cervical spine.

This workshop is designed to show the pathways and roles of the cranial nerves and the interrelationships of the neural pathways. This is important when treating cranial nerve pathology since the neighboring nerves may also be involved in your treatment protocol.

In this workshop, you will study the anatomy of the cranial nerves, their pathways, from the brain to the cranium and neck, and ways for treating different nerve pathologies. This will include conditions such as Bell’s palsy, burning mouth syndrome, trigeminal neuritis, and tinnitus.

The participants will gain knowledge in:

  • The anatomy of the cranial nerves.
  • The pathways of the nerves through the cranial bones’ foramen and soft tissues of the cranium and upper cervical spine.
  • Assessing the pathology of the cranial nerves with thorough history taking.
  • The anastomoses of the cranial nerves to neighboring nerves and the cervical plexus.
  • The causes of nerval pathology of the cranial nerves.
  • The protocol for the treatment of cranial nerve pathology.

The participants will gain practical hands-on skills to:

  • Treat the cranial nerves with stimulation, stretching, and flossing of the cranial nerves.
  • Open the foramen that the cranial nerves pass through.
  • Regain mobility and free up intraneural and extraneural adhesions.
  • Release myofascial trigger points in the muscles that are served by the cranial nerves.
  • Release adhesions and fixations in the fascia surrounding the cranial nerves.
  • Regain the mobility of a cranial nerve by activating motions of the neighboring nerves.
